Vladyslav Omelchenko will become the first Ukrainian player to compete in the Cazoo World Darts Championship.

Omelchenko won through the two-day Ukrainian Qualifier in Kyiv to seal a place in darts’ biggest event as he now turns his focus to competing at Alexandra Palace in December.

The PDC introduced a Ukrainian Qualifier this year with the EADC circuit currently suspended, and it was Omelchenko – a 47-year-old miner from Mukachevo – who emerged victorious.

After being one of the eight players to come through Saturday’s two initial qualifying events – which produced four players apiece – he began Sunday’s latter stages with a 6-3 win over Artem Usyk.

Omelchenko then defeated Yaroslav Mykytyn 6-4 in a tight semi-final and proved too strong for Volodymyr Zalevskyi with a straight sets win in the final.
